Local Area Info

“Located in the heart of the Colorado Rocky Mountains, Winter Park is a year-round mountain destination resort with breathtaking scenery, abundant activities, and it's just 67 miles from Denver.

In Winter Park, Colorado we offer the best of the Rockies: magnificent views of towering mountain peaks, exciting camping, hiking, biking, and boating experiences, and an incredible basecamp to enjoy all that Rocky Mountain National Park has to offer. Top all of that off with great places to stay and a unique downtown where you can dine, shop & more, and you’re looking at one great small-town mountain town for your next trip.

Grand County is where outdoor enthusiasts will find a quality experience, no matter what their ability level or activity preference.
Many skiers and snowboarders already know our area for its winter playground since we’re home to Winter Park Resort. Our location, tucked against the Continental Divide, ensures dependable snow all winter long. Skiers and snowboarders are happy with two downhill resorts, learn-to-ski-and-ride parks, Mary Jane sized moguls for the die-hards, and four cross-country resorts with plentiful groomed tracks. But beyond the ski area all the way to Rocky Mountain National Park, there is almost every type of outdoor recreation possible.

In the wintertime, families love slipping, sliding and gliding on the regional tubing hills and skating rinks. Once-in-a-lifetime activities also abound: back country snowcat ski trips, dog sled rides, hot air balloon tours and horse-drawn carriage rides. Enjoy the snow this winter.

Though “winter” is in our name, there’s plenty of summer fun! A great deal of locals testify that they “came for the winter, but stayed for the summer.” Find out why.

The hikers and bikers are in a mountain paradise with over 600 miles of trails to explore, dubbing the area Mountain Bike Capital USA™ for good reason. River rafting, fishing, golfing, boating, horseback riding and an all time favorite with kids of all ages…the longest alpine slide in Colorado ensure that all are able to pursue their passion, or perhaps find a new one.
The warmer weather also attracts over 200 exciting events, including marquee music festivals, run, fitness and bike events, beer and wine festivals – making for an event-packed summer calendar.

If we haven’t given you enough reason to visit Winter Park and the Fraser valley yet, there’s more… thanks to our community. Not only will you find friendly folks here, there’s a wide variety of affordable lodging, locally owned and operated services available from A to Z, over 60 dining and nightlife options to tantalize your taste buds, and shopping from the Village of Winter Park to the towns of Winter Park and Fraser.

Most importantly, Winter Park is authentic, friendly, comfortable and packed with activities and unique events year-round.  Maybe it will be your first visit, but we’re betting it won’t be your last.”
